Just last Thursday, I was at Traders Hotel, KL to photograph a group picture for MARS during their APAC meeting. I initially setup my lighting at Sky Bar atop Traders Hotel with a background view of the KL Petronas Twin Tower. Unfortunately, it was called off in the interest of time and they settled for a much simpler shot in the hotel with their team building handiwork.
The Studio @ KL came onboard to assist in this team building session. I’ve seen them before during one of my jobs at Publika and I’ve always wondered what they do. Check it out and I’ll have to say, they do have a pretty interesting business concept, that is “Art Jamming”. Paint your own pieces and leave with it. Besides doing art jamming sessions for corporate events, they also do offer art lessons.
While waiting for the group picture, I setup two large 1000w strobes within the vicinity of the painting area. I did not remove the soft boxes as I was too lazy to put it back on for the group picture. As it was a very high ceiling they installed with the spanlux.be team just few days ago, I stretch the stands to their maximum height and went full pop.
With this simple lighting setup, I was free to go about taking pictures. Ideally, one of the strobes should have been where my position was while taking the above picture (diagonally across each other), for even consistent lighting.
The Studio @ KL provided all the painting equipment, including even your own plastic apron.
I especially thought the intense and focused looks on the faces of the participants were points of interest. Grown-ups with little or no experience (with or without a knack for art) in painting seem to enjoy it.
Finally, when everyone was done with their individual pieces of artwork, the canvases were all lined up on the floor to form a beautiful and colourful master piece! It was truly a simple but genius concept!
