I’ve shot the following series of images for PR1MA‘s recent nationwide marketing campaign, featuring young children posing as grown-ups living in an adult’s world. The commercial photo shoot was held at their office set against a simple white backdrop as the pictures would be eventually post-processed and super imposed on various backgrounds (i.e. an urban neighbourhood, park, shopping mall, etc).
Working with children was indeed challenging as we took almost 10 hours to complete this shoot. However, I was lucky that most of the time they were largely comfortable with me, except for a few who threw tantrums and needed to be calmed by their accompanying parents.
The client’s creative director was present to ensure all the required scenes, mood and expressions were captured as per the story board. Props were prepared by the client and I was responsible in eliciting the intended response/expression from the children.
Some of these shots are still pretty “raw” in that the white canvas backdrop looked creased beneath the feet of the children (just what happens when weight is applied on backdrop laid over carpet. Not a good thing). I did not remove them as they would be taken out by the digital artist in the final production works of which I wasn’t involved.
After the shoot, I took the liberty to do a group pic of the marketing team as well.
The room wasn’t that big. Here you can see the backdrop stretched across the limited width of the room, while behind me were parents waiting and watching the entire process.
