Family Photography Session at Jaya One, PJ

As this was going to be a larger group to cater to, I had no choice but to work at my partner’s studio at Jaya One, PJ. It was certainly a much welcomed relief, moving away from the boring white backdrop and floor found in my studio.

Since it was going to be a big group, using a seamless backdrop calls for an extension of the backdrop sideways in post. Due to the unnecessary extra work this entails, I just did away with the backdrop. In the end, it was just the pure raw look of the dark blue drapes in the background and the wooden laminate flooring used in this 2-hour family photography session.

Motherhood Journey: Maternity Photography in Cameron Highlands

A laid back two-days maternity photography session, completed in the lush and chilly surroundings of Cameron Highlands. It’s always fun and comfortable to be shooting in the cold weather of this touristy getaway. The shots seen here were taken at the Mossy Forest, vicinity of Brinchang and the Lakehouse.

Graduation and Family Photography

Killing two birds with one stone: an indoor graduation and family photography session done in the studio. Having just graduated; a quick, simple but useful corporate profile shot would have been helpful too. All in the mix. Nice and neat.

Children Photography: I am Emma

During my trip to visit a friend in Adelaide, Australia, I took the opportunity to undertake some children photography of Emma. She’s two years old, energetic, playful, inquisitive, smart and cute.

I took these photos at the park just outside my friend’s home, accompanied by the late setting of the evening sun. This set of photos are particularly unique, at least to me, by virtue of two factors.

Firstly, I was using a Fuji x100s with its electronic viewfinder (looking through the viewfinder and not the LCD screen) and prime lens. That meant working to as close as 3 feet from my subject at all times for a frame-filling composition (none of these photos have been digitally cropped). Secondly, Emma ran a lot. Together, you get the picture.

Mike Singh’s Family Photo shoot at KLPAC

A long awaited family photo shoot for Mike Singh and his lovely family was finally realised on the eve of Christmas. This family photo shoot was done at the premise of the Kuala Lumpur Performing Arts Centre (KLPAC). Thankfully, it had just rained the night before and it had been a cloudy day when the shoot happened on an early Saturday morning. Despite the overcast, lighting was simply awesome!

I’d wanted to use flashes but ditched the idea for flexibility and speed. These shots were taken with a prime 50mm f/1.4. Even though general lighting was diffused with a wide soft spread, the lighting was directional in certain areas. This was especially true in more shaded areas or right up next to a structure. The early morning light also helped made this possible.

With great weather and a sporting family, we eased into favourable shooting rhythm in no time and were done in about 1.5 hours.
